No matter what profession you may be in or what career you pursue to engage in – everyone has to strengthen their lower back and promote a healthy lifestyle that results in a healthy spine and healthy back. If not, there are some challenges that may come across their paths such as not being able to perform daily activities with ease or not being able to go & perform your daily workouts at 100%. Now, there are several daily practices one can do every day to have a healthy back. They range from sitting down with correct posture, eating a healthy diet, daily meditation, strengthening your core, and visiting a local professional such as a chiropractor who is very well trained that can give you wise counsel as each scenario is different for each of us.
Tips for promoting a healthy back
1. Something not many people talk about when promoting a healthy back is the importance of having nice tennis shoes that have excellent support and are not outdated. One needs to make sure to do their research and due-diligence before running or exercising in those. When one has the correct shoes with the correct support structure in place, it can go a long way and make your life easier for reducing lower back pain.
2. The second thing to do is treat yourself to a massage. Now, this is may counterintuitive however when you receive a full body massage to specifically tension in the lower to mid back for a hour. As a result, this will do wonders for yourself to help relieve any lower back pain you may have. After the massage, if you are still experiencing lower back pain then I would make it a priority to visit a local chiropractor in your area that can help pinpoint the probable cause for why your back may be causing pain in the first place.
3. The third thing to look out for is making sure you have & are sleeping on the best mattress possible. As they say, sleeping on a mattress can you save you years as the majority of your time in life will be sleeping. There are different characteristics to look for when investing in a good mattress but you will want to make sure you get an excellent & comfortable pillow to go with the mattress that is right just for you whether you favor firm or soft better.
Also, in addition to the tips I have mentioned above, another healthy practice for a healthy back is to use good posture all throughout the day as it is essential. Now, everyone knows to have good posture however no one really practices it so it is their standard. This is crucially important for a healthy spine. For example, the smartphone you carry can cause a strain in your neck and they have recently discovered that those with poor posture are found to be more depressed. Experts have found that having poor posture can be linked to weight gain, heartburn, migraines, and anxiety. A quick for you to use right now is using deep belly breathing on a daily basis can significantly improve your posture. Deep belly breathing can lead to better posture which can turn lead to improved well-being and increased energy with increased human performance.
Next is supplement your body with the right nutrients and to feed your body with the correct nutrition to maximize & promote a healthy spine and back for your body. For example, spending some time in the sun and receiving vitamin D can energize your whole body – literally wake it up and encourage your body to stand up straighter.
Also, adding the correct supplementation into your body can directly your spine. I would make sure to add healthy fats such as almonds, omega-3, and a lot of healthy dark leafy greens to reduce inflammation in the body. Furthermore, an advanced technique one can use is called inversion table therapy. For those not familiar with inversion table therapy is where you invert yourself at a safe angle and you use it to decompress the spine so there is no more pressure on the lower part of your back. Now, there are many inversion table reviews on the internet however my best guess would be to search on google as google comes up with the highest quality of results for users.
These are all great suggestions. I’m a chiropractor and I mention most of these tips in some form or another to my patients, especially the tip on belly or abdominal breathing.
Most people with back pain have an inactive core which isn’t supporting the spine. The first step towards “waking it up” is abdominal breathing. That’s the first exercise I give a patient when I give them a core-strengthening program with them. If you want to see examples of how to do that, google “crocodile breathing”.
Good advice!

Probably the best education I’ve gotten recently is working out in a gym and how important form and body mechanics are during exercise. When I swim (everyday) I practice good posture walking in the pools, tucking my tummy in, and working my “tail” muscles to do the work of walking…. makes it easier when out of the pool to remember my posture.. thank you for another informative post 🙂

Having a healthy back is so important. Just ask people with back pain. I saved the part about massage because my son is a massage therapist and I may be able to use your

Hi Sonal,
