15 Lifestyle Changes to be Truly Happy

15 Lifestyle Changes to be Truly Happy
Like Tweet Pin it Share Share Email

Happiness comes from within and this fact cannot be denied. But at times we fail to realize that we are killing our happiness in many ways.

The pursuit of happiness is the basic human right and despite all the freedom available to us, most of us are not able to attain this state of happiness. We are so occupied with our daily troubles and goals that we tend to forget what makes us happy. The real happiness requires daily effort and with small lifestyle changes you can get to the right path.

What you need to do is stay away from things that hold you back and don’t allow you to be happy. So if you are under the spell of sadness, make these simple changes in your life and stay happy!

1. Stop procrastinating and focus on the present

Stop procrastinating be happy

You have a goal or a dream which you want to achieve. No doubt planning to achieve that goal is important but if you keep thinking of it all the time instead of making a move, then it’s time for a change.

Stop procrastinating.

Leave your laziness

Get up and move……now is the right time!

Once you are out of your couch and start with your little tasks, it will just take few hours to get it done. If you stop worrying about the obligations, you can do wonders.

“Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.” – Philip Stanhope.

2. Think what makes you truly happy

The idea of happiness for everyone of us is different. What makes me happy doesn’t necessarily make you happy too. So don’t follow someone else but try to figure out what makes you happy. For instance write down top 4 things that make you happy and what you need to do to achieve this. Once you start listing down, you may find out that even an hour of less sleep holds you back in so many things like you are not able to focus or decreased productivity at workplace etc.

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” – Dalai Lama Click To Tweet

3. Take care of your body

Our body has the ability to adapt to any situation and environment. What we feel at an emotional level is striongly associated with what we physically feel. At times people take a lot of stress because they are not satisfied with their appearance. At the same time if you don’t take a proper diet filled with all the nutrients, you will have an exhausted and unsatisfied mind. So take care of your body as the healthy body will take you a long way. Physical health plays a vital role in being happy which most of us tend to ignore.

“To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” – Buddha

4. Do away with jealousy

Jealousy as you all know is a negative feeling. It can ruin your happiness and sow the seeds of hatred in your heart. So stay away from this killer emotion.

5. Don’t be afraid of change

Change is the only constant thing in this universe. Learn to accept change and embrace it. Use the changed situation to your advantage rather than cribbing over it. The day you learn to accept change your life will become happy.

6. Stay away from demotivating people

Stay away from people and things that don’t allow you to reach your full potential. Don’t get used to things in a certain way. A friend who comes to you only in the time of need or a problem, a lover who takes away all your life energy – stay away from such demotivating people who limit you. They are the cause of your sorrow. Stay surrounded with people who cut out your bad things from life.

“Surround yourself with the right people, and realize your own worth. Honestly, there are enough bad people out there in the world – you don’t need to be your own worst enemy.” – Lucy Hale

7. Don’t cling on to your past

If you want to be truly happy, never hold onto your past. You may have come to terms with it but still clinging on to it may destroy your present and thus ruin your happiness.

8. Cherish small moments of life

Sometimes the small moments of life can give you the biggest joy. Whenever you feel low, just look around – something pleasant always happens. Maybe a guy or a girl smiled at you when you were buying your coffee or fun chat with your friend that made you smile – relish these moments and you will no doubt be a happy person.

“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” – Omar Khayyam”

9. Give up control

Stop arguments happy

That constant need to keep everything under control can really be damaging. If you want to be happy – give up on your habit to control.

10. Stop playing the blame games

Are you in the habit of blaming others for whatever happens in your life? If you want to be happy, stop blaming others. Follow the forget and forgive policy in life.

11. Stop arguments

No doubt arguments are an important part of life and can help resolve big problems. But the arguments you indulge in should be healthy. Don’t start an argument with a winning mentality and argue only when required. Don’t argue over trifles. Argument takes up a lot of energy so make sure why you are arguing and over what. If possible prevent arguments to stay happy.

“Convincing yourself doesn’t win an argument.” – Robert Half Click To Tweet

12. Give up the need to achieve everything

Very ambitious people want to achieve more than what is essential. For this they take too much stress and overburden themselves. This keeps them way from their real happiness.

13. Do something that you are passionate for

Pursue your passion. This is where your real happiness lies. Do something you are good at, this will make you more confident and give you happiness when you look at the results of your labour. At the same time you will be focused in something creative and will be stress-free.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou

14. Be grateful

As I mentioned in my earlier post, be grateful to people who have in one way or the other helped you or have given you a reason to smile. Being grateful and appreciating others will definitely make you feel happy. A simple thank you can do wonders.

15. Finally, do away with the need to be right all the time

The day you stop proving others that you are right, you will be truly happy.

These things can unquestionably bring you more closer to achieving your goal. Knowing is not same as doing, so get up and get going.

  • Hi Sonal,

You and I will need to have a chat about procrastination as I’m just finishing up a post on how you can let procrastination change your life in unexpected ways.

And it’s not often that you hear the advice to give up the need to achieve everything, but it needs to be said more often. I certainly became much happier when I did!

Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

    Warmly,

      Hi Quinn

Thanks for your wonderful feedback. Loved your idea about the post you are writing – how can procrastination change your life. Yes we can definitely talk about it.

Obviously there are things we need to achieve but there should not be that desire to achieve everything because if we fail to achieve it leads to stress and frustration.

  • Hey Sonal,

Some great points and a couple of reminders for me. Happiness is a state of mind. And it is up to us to make sure we choose what makes us happy. As it’s that start of a new year, I am still doing my exercise, eating well, meditation and my daily routine (ticking some of the stuff off your list in your post). I love what I do so I have to remember when I want to slacken off its because of all the effort I put in that I feel fine.

Two days last week I did not meditate and I was thinking its only the start of the year and you are slacking. Stay on top of it. Then I read this post and its the boost I needed to remind that I am in a great place mentally, if I want to stay there, all I have to do is what I am already doing and no slacking. Thanks Sonal.

    Rachel.

  • Hi Sonal,

You make some great points. The one that really hits home for me is spending time with de motivating people. In general I typically don’t complain but when I started spending time with someone with a negative outlook that changed. I found myself to be unhappy for no real reason.

Once I distanced myself from them things got much better. It truly has an impact.

Have a nice rest of the week!

Thanks for visiting my blog and your wonderful feedback.

Am glad that you liked the post. Demotivating people have such negative vibes that you feel low and depressed for no reason at all. such people are not happy themselves and wont allow others to be happy. Its better to stay away from them.

Its really good that you are staying away from such people. Keep it up!

      Have a nice day!
