5 ways to have a Happy and Healthy New Year

1. Put yourself first

In the New Year 2017, one thing you should be determined to do is to put yourself first. Most of us neglect our own happiness, health and needs, and care more for people around us. So, in 2017, concentrate on yourself, do things that make you happy. Take out time for yourself, and cut yourself some slack when you need it. This way you will start feeling better not only emotionally but also physically and mentally.

2. Set realistic goals

Most of us are carried away with the excitement of the New Year, and we set unrealistic goals and resolutions that are bound to fail. This year, keep your expectations realistic. Start small or step-by-step and you are certain to achieve your goals, whether personal or professional. Don’t get bogged down by the pressure of an unattainable goal.  Be calm to have a happy and healthy New Year!

3. Make it a point to eat better

I am not saying that you should go on a diet, or starve yourself, but just be more careful of what you eat. You don’t have to do this with the intention of losing or gaining weight, but more so, in an effort to live a healthier life. With the present state of health and the environment, it just makes sense to make an effort to live a more healthy and fit life. And eating carefully is one step in the right direction.

4. Cut out the negativity

Whether it’s a person or a situation, get rid of all the negativity that is around you and is wearing you down. It is going to be tough, but you need to do it. You don’t need negative people around you. Make it a point to fill your life with more positive things and people who can motivate and encourage you. Once this is done, you are at once going to be in a better situation to deal with everything coming at you.

5. Try to be more active

Now don’t go running to get a year-long subscription to the gym that you’re never going to use. First, take some time to think about the kind of physical activity you would enjoy doing, especially for an extended period of time. Then look for the most convenient place for you to go do it. It doesn’t even have to do anything with the gym, it can be a dance class, a cycling club or any kind of physical exercise you prefer. If you want to start slow, you can even begin with a half-hour long walk around where you live. But consciously make an effort to get off your butt and do something active!

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year 2017!

  • Great advice Sonal. If only people could work on those 5 things even in small measure they would feel and be so much better. Everyone could benefit from eating a healthier diet. As you say it does not have to be a weight loss diet but simply by eating better weight loss can come without much effort especially if it’s combined with exercise. We were meant to move and not sit on a couch or at a desk all day.

I wish you a very Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year and I look forward to reading some more great articles.

  • Eat better and increased activity have to be my goals, not just for the new year but for me and my general health. I do tend to ignore my diet, somewhat, and I don’t do as much activity as I should. I work hard but that’s different. Happy New Year to you!

    Enjoy the journey!
