Department of Bio-technology, Secretary, K. Vijay Raghavan said that “a data based software package will not only identify individuals who are becoming susceptible to diabetes but also predict the future course of disease in those who are already diabetic.”

“It is hoped that the advance warning provided by such a system will allow the target individuals to preemptively make appropriate lifestyle alterations so as to mitigate the disease onset and prevent its progression,” he said.

“This re-absorption process contributes to maintain high glycemic levels in diabetics. • Hi Sonal,

It is so unfortunate that so many people are diabetic. When it comes to food, I do believe we need to figure out the nature of it. Here in the U.S. we don’t have labelling. So many foods are GMO. Although we have been fighting this cause for many years, we still don’t know where our food is grown. The GMO factor has a lot to do with the consistency of food. OK…I will stop ranting….

But having a good wellness lifestyle is so important not only for someone that is diabetic, but for all dis -ease -ments…

  • Hi Sonal,
it is a good sign that the Indian government supports preventing diabetes .
I know about a very good movement in India . It is the more and more processed food
people consuming there and the subsidised rice , I south India Tamil Nadu and the University
of Chennai started to support farmers ,many of them women who plant the ancient
Millet (Bajra) and there are many other kinds of millet, which was before the green revolution and the bad water management the main food. Even here and in Europe people starting using it more and more again. Even the University of Berkely published a study about. My friend Radha Natarajan, Priya Shiva and many other women are publishing beautiful recipes with Millet. The Famous Vandana Shiva from Navdanya is talking a long time about this and even did write books. I too did write a book about Millet, not yet published 🙂 ,but will do soon ,because I see it is getting more and more popular here as well.
I hoped to get Vandana Shiva to write something for it and did visit her office in Delhi, but did not get an answer yet. It is one of the best foods for vegan and vegetarian to get enough protein regulate the blood sugar and keep the right weight. Happy to hear and you did write about the Government want to help and I hope instead of developing software they support the farmers.
    Thank you
