Facebook Messenger launches ‘Group Calling’

Facebook Messenger already has a feature that allows an individual to make calls to users.

But what if you want to make a conference call?

There is good news for all of you who want to make any kind of a conference call.

Facebook messenger has launched a new feature of ‘Group Calling’.

In the words of Facebook’s David Marcus, “Really excited to announce the global roll out of group calling in Messenger today. From any group conversations, just tap on the phone icon to initiate a group call. You can then manage individual participants on the next screen. If you have the latest version of Messenger, you should see the phone icon appear in group conversations within the next 24 hours.”

‘Group Calling’ lets a user add 50 participants at the same time.

It’s a pretty huge number and it is unlikely that you need to call so many people at the same time. So the limit of 50 on group call is fair enough!

As reported by TechCrunch.com, Facebook Messenger’s latest feature will be rolled out globally in the next 24 hours. The feature will be available on both the iOS and Android versions of the app. It will be for free and users can start a group Voice over IP ( VoIP) audio call from any group chat.

Voice over IP (VoIP) is a method and group of technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks such as the internet.

How to use ‘Group Calling’ feature

‘Group Calling’ is fairly easy to use.

If you want to start a group call, you just need to tap the “Phone” icon, and then select which of the group chat members you want to include and call. All the members you select will receive a Messenger call at the same time.

What if someone misses the first call?

No worries….

If the call is still in progress, you can tap the Phone icon in the group chat at any point of time and join the conversation.

You can also see who all have joined the group call and can add keep adding participants during the conversation.
