It has many styles but there is nothing like a Romantic kiss which connects you with that someone special in your life. It is a way to show affection to your partner and tell them what you feel. But there is a lot more to it.

Do you know that kissing not only helps in strengthening your relationship with your lover but also gives you many health benefits? We all take kiss for granted but there is a great bubbling underneath not visible to the eye.

Let me list down some of the benefits you get when you kiss or smooch your darling!

kissing

1. Kissing boosts Immunity

It may sound weird but it’s true that kissing swap germs which boosts immunity and strengthens the body’s defences. A study published in the journal Medical Hypotheses reveals the fact that kissing protects the woman’s body from Cytomegalovirus which can cause diseases like infant blindness during pregnancy.

2. Kissing reduces Pain

An intense and a passionate kiss release the hormone adrenaline, which helps in reducing pain. Just as the sexual activity release pain-reducing endorphins and gives you relief from pain so does kissing.

3. Kissing helps fight Cavities

Kissing is a way to clean your teeth – want to know how? It is being said that kissing produces more saliva in the mouth. This results in washing away the plaque on teeth which leads to cavities and thus prevents tooth decay.

Kiss everyday to ignite love with your beloved and get pearl-white teeth!

4. Kissing releases happy Hormones

While kissing, your brain releases happy hormones such as serotonin and oxytocin. “This (oxytocin) is the hormone of love, and the better the oxytocin levels, the more capacity for love,” says psychotherapist Arthur Janov, Ph.D., author of ‘The Biology of Love’. The sensory neurons of our lips are stimulated by our partner’s touch. This results in the release of hormone called sebum which plays a vital role in the bonding. So apart from keeping you happy, kissing also makes your relationship stronger.

“Happiness is like a kiss. You must share it to enjoy it.” – Bernard Meltzer

A kiss is a great way to gauge your first attraction to a person. Your first kiss can be a turn-off so be careful. Females give more importance to kissing in judging the potential partner.

According to the researchers a kiss helps you find the genetically compatible match for yourself. “At the moment of the kiss, there are hard-wired mechanisms that assess health, reproductive status and genetic compatibility,” says Gordon G. Gallup Jr., a professor of evolutionary psychology at the State University of New York at Albany. Kissing reveals who you are and what you want.

  • Hi, Sonal

I like the topic of your post

When we grew up in Hong Kong, we missed out the kissing with our parents because we do not have that in oriental culture.

I love kissing with my husband and my kids. According the structure of human body, the lip tissue is the second softest tissue on the body after the tissue of eye (white part) It provides me to have the intimate connection with them during kissing.

There are problems or issues created by kissing such as transmitting diseases and others. But I believe the benefits are more than the problems.

I enjoyed your list of little unknown facts about kissing.

My favor kissing moment is kissing during the love making when two of us are totally connected.

BTW what is your favor kissing moment?

    Will Share.

Kissing means not only a romantic kiss but also the kiss of parents or children. When a child is injured, the mother expresses her love and care by kissing him. That moment becomes special and also reduces the pain of the child.

  • Hey Sonal,

Well I am throwing out my tooth brush for the kiss, giving up my weight training to kiss. Okay one minute equals six calories, I am sure I have got it in me to kiss for an hour. And not to have to worry about my cavities. Well the benefits certainly are positive. This should be more publicised.

I was not aware of what a kiss could do. A well researched post. But you forgot one thing. Kissing can lead to more and nine months later there could be pain and screeming when bubs arrives.

How interesting that woman use a kiss and subconsciously analyse it summing up their potential new partner. Watch out men you have to have your best kissing lips ready for that first kiss.

    Thanks Sonal.

    Rachel.

  • Hi Sonal,

Who knew that there could be so many benefits to kissing? Although you say kissing can boost immunity I’ve read that kissing can transfer germs although surprisingly enough recent research has found that you won’t catch your partners cold through exchange of saliva. The virus can only be spread through mucus apparently. Not a pleasant thought!

I kiss my grandchildren on the cheek instead of the lips just in case they have some germs lurking. You never know where their hands have been and then they may have had their fingers in their mouths. I have noticed that my husband I don’t seem to catch their germs although their other grandparents always go down with something after they have seen them,

    • Author

      Hi Sandy

Kissing has many health benefits. It maybe true that kissing spreads little germs but I guess it has so many health benefits that a certain negative aspect can be done away with. Infact everything has its pros and cons.

With small children it is always a great idea to kiss on the cheeks.

Thanks for writing in and sharing the info.

      Have a nice day!
