4 Key Pillars of Perfect Health

Life in a city is so busy that every person finds himself or herself overcommitted. Every morning when I get up and move out, I see people running after buses or metros. It’s a race against time. People are juggling between several priorities and have no time for themselves even let alone the others. It is as if they have lost control of their lives.

In such a busy and exhausting lifestyle what you tend to ignore is your health, which is the most important factor that keeps you going.

Just think! If your health doesn’t support you how will you manage with the daily struggles? Just as a table needs four legs to stand our body stands on the four pillars of health. To maintain a healthy lifestyle you don’t have to work hard, just follow these simple Pillars of Healthy Living.

1. Sleep

Do you give yourself adequate and peaceful sleep? Sleep is the fundamental element for your well being which most of you neglect. Long ago when life was not so hectic people used to sleep for eight to nine hours. Today on an average a person sleeps only around six hours.

What does this statistics reveal – we lose around 730 hours of rest in a year and this affects our health both physically and mentally.

It’s while sleeping that the body repairs and recharges itself. Just as your phone needs to be recharged to keep it going your body too! So if you are so concerned about your phone, how can you neglect your health?

One of the important thing that you need to take care of when you go to your bed is that don’t go stressed. If something is disturbing you, try to control your thoughts or try meditating. Once you are relieved of all stress you will have a great sleep. Another point of consideration is that since your body is in a recovery mode when you are sleeping; make sure that you supply all essential minerals and vitamins to your body.

Eat healthy and sleep well!

2. Hydration

health

A fish cannot breathe without water. Similarly even a human being cannot live without water. If you want to stay healthy, keep your body hydrated.

Staying hydrated:

  • Keeps your body cool
  • Helps in lubricating joints
  • Cleanses toxins from the body
  • Keeps the skin supple
  • Reduces high blood pressure
  • Maintains cholesterol level
  • Prevents unwanted weight gain
  • Energy booster
  • Makes you feel and look younger

It is recommended that we drink atleast 8 glasses of water everyday. Are you drinking enough water? Is your body hydrated?

Keep drinking!

3. Active Living

health

Does your job require you to sit throughout the day?

What kind of movement do you do on a daily basis? Are you living an active life?

When it comes to health and fitness the simple solution is to be moving rather than sitting. To stay healthy and full of energy it is not necessary to go to a gym. Just go out and be in motion. If you like walking, go for a walk. Running, playing, yoga, swimming – there are innumerable ways to keep yourself in motion. Name it and try it. It is the regular movement of the body that keeps you healthy.

Being active physically means a person:

  • Has greater energy levels
  • Is in a better shape
  • Has greater mental health
  • Knows how to keep stress free
  • Improves sleep and controls weight

The bottom line is – play, run, swim, exercise, walk- do anything you like, just keep moving!

4. Thoughts

health

Do our thoughts and emotions affect our health? Yes they do.

Negative thoughts affect or hormonal system and makes us unhappy. It also has a harmful effect on our immune system. It is our thoughts that create stress in our lives. Here lies the great importance of positivity. As I mentioned in my earlier post – a positive mind is a key to good health.

Even a simple gesture of being grateful can make you healthy and happy.

Remember what Shakespeare said: “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” So, positive thoughts lead to a healthy state.

Think healthy and be happy – your body will follow that!

These four pillars form the base for your healthy living. So if you want to live a healthy life – start building the base.

So readers, are your pillars of health strong enough?

  • Hi Sonal,

You are absolutely right about all that you mentioned 🙂

Without either of these 4 pillars, our health is bound to suffer. Sleep is one area that I need to work on, and I think it’s the case with most professional bloggers and those who work on a tight schedule. I’ts recommended that we get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, but it never really happens, isn’t it?

Yes, keeping ourselves hydrated takes care of a lot of ailments, which we don’t know of. I agree about living a healthy lifestyle that includes keeping active and eating healthy too. We must always think positive, as our thoughts is what keep is going and help to lift others too.

Thanks for sharing it all with us. Have a nice weekend 🙂

      Hi Harleena Mam

Thanks for your wonderful comment. Am honored to have your feedback. I feel today everyone is struggling in this area – sleep. We don’t give our bodies and mind enough relaxation and keep working day and night.

We work so much under deadlines that our mind is filled with negative thoughts most of the time. only positive thoughts can keep us healthy and happy.

      Have a nice weekend!

  • Hello Sonal,

Great points. I recently read that getting too much sleep is associated with health problems. Hard to believe isn’t it?

Dr. Youngstedt, a professor at Arizona State University who researches the effects of oversleeping, says that studies show getting too much sleep is associated with health problems including diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease and with higher rates of death. Seven hours is now considered to be the optimal time for sleep.

Studies show electro-magnetic field exposures can interrupt sleep cycles and are linked to a host of ailments. For example cell phones can play havoc with sleep patterns and your immune system so you should not have a cell phone in your bedroom. In fact all electronics should be turned off during sleeping hours. A battery-powered alarm clock is best.

I find all this stuff so interesting.

      Hi Sandy
Yes it is strange. Even I am hearing it for the first time that too much sleep is not good for health.

It is true that seven hours of good sleep is enough. Whenever a person goes to bed, he should be stress free. Then only he will have a good sleep which will keep him active for the next day. disturbing elements should be kept away.

Am glad that you found the post interesting.

      Have a nice day!

  • Thanks so much for the reminders of these basics! We can do other things to improve our health, but if we neglect these four simple things, the rest of our efforts will be wasted.

Thanks so much for the post!

    Blessings!

  • Hi Sonal ,
this is a good reminder for all of us ,
Specially the people who work online
need to be more active and do a kind of exercise,
long sitting is not very healthy .
All your other points are right as well,
We are what we eat and what we think
as well ,too much negative thoughts and
worry is not healthy as well.
Getting aware of this thoughts and change
    negative mind chatter is good.
A 5-10 min. meditation can help.
    Thank you

      Hi Erika Mam

Positive thoughts makes us happy and we stay healthy. We should try and avoid negative thinking. It can affect our health badly.

Meditation is a good way to relax and be at peace.

  • Hey Sonal,

It was a couple of days ago, when I was siting on my balcony having my breakfast, watching people run for the train. Everyone always in a hurry. At that moment I was so appreciative that I stepped away from the rat race. So reading the beginning of your post took me back.

Isn’t sleep so important? It can be the difference between getting through my day with ease or having to apply discipline. When I get my eight hours I can handle anything – super mental strength. When I am tire I wonder where all my years of self development have gone to. Because I get negative and narky.

I agree with the water. I am a drink pig. Never do I leave the house without a bottle of water. And I know where all the water fountains are when I walking. And I do take your advice and get active regularly. I have wonderful routine where my four pillars are catered too. I was reading down it, giving myself a tick – thinking yep – I am doing that. Thanks for the post.

      Hi Rachel

Sleep is very important. It is the peaceful and restful sleep of the night that keeps us going the next day. you are absolutely right, it gives us a lot of mental strength. I get irritated when i don’t get a proper sleep. So it is a key element for our health.

Even I make it a point to carry my water bottle the moment I step out of my house. I drink a lot of water. It keeps my body hydrated and makes my skin glow. Being active means being healthy.

Thanks for your comment. Keep writing in.

      Have a wonderful day!
